Sheikh Lawrence meets with Maj. Ashley Burch, head of the civil affairs detachment for Regimental Combat Team 6, and a linguist to talk about ongoing schools projects at the opening of a new diwan for the sheikhs council and city council of Karmah, Sept. 9, in Karmah, Iraq. Lawrence, an influential local sheikh, has been instrumental to the success of the Iraqi security forces and U.S. Marine Corps partnership that will eventually lead to the creation and refurbishment of dozens of schools and water projects in the Karmah area.
