Senior Airman Ashley V. Chytraus, 108th Wing, New Jersey Air National Guard, prepares for the mile and half run portion of the United States Air Force Fitness Test at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J., June 14, 2015. Chytraus was in a motorcycle accident June 21, 2014. The collision broke two vertebrae in Chytraus’s neck, crushed her hand, mangled the quadriceps tendon in her leg, forced two splintered ribs into her liver and fractured her elbow. In addition, she died while being medevaced to the hospital. 358 days later, she passed all portions of the Air Force Physical Fitness Test and received an excellent.
