A U.S. Marines officer in desert MARPAT camouflage is placing a helmet atop a rifle that is bayonet-down in the ground, forming a battlefield cross memorial. Dog tags hang from the rifle, and combat boots are placed at the base — a traditional military tribute to a fallen service member. A group of Marines and military vehicles are visible in the background observing the ceremony.
