Maj. Gen. Daniel Bolger, the commanding general for Multi-National Division-Baghdad, congratulates Sgt. 1st Class Richard Gonzales, of Rosemead, Calif., after awarding him the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device during a awards ceremony, Aug. 19, at Joint Security Station Salie, located in the Ma'dain region, outside eastern Baghdad. Bolger awarded five Paratroopers the medals of valor for their actions in late March during a series of violence in the al-Fadhil neighborhood of eastern Baghdad following the warrant-based arrest of local awakening council leader Adel al-Mashhadani by the Iraqi security forces. Gonzales is a platoon sergeant assigned to Troop A., 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
