Pfc. Anthony Sandoval, of Clarkdale, Ariz., checks his surroundings during a checkpoint patrol, Aug. 19, in the Ma'dain region, located outside eastern Baghdad. Sandoval and his fellow cavalry scouts pulled security as federal police officers manned the checkpoint and searched vehicles for illegal munitions. U.S. Paratroopers provided external security for the mission. Sandoval is a cavalry scout assigned to Troop A, 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad.
