The location of Distributed Tactical Communications System handsets are displayed on this integrated map during a demonstration held aboard Naval Support Facility Dahlgren Oct. 25, 2007. In addition to voice and data, the DTCS handset provides position location information. The common operational picture also shows the location of the operations center, two vehicle convoys approximately 100 miles to the northwest and south, and two CH-53E helicopters. Warfighters can use DTCS for dismounted hand-held operation or on platforms ranging from ground vehicles to aircraft. Since September 2008, a team of NSWC Dahlgren Division engineers have been working with warfighters in Afghanistan to evaluate and field the Netted Iridium radios.
