150515-N-LD343-006 POINT LOMA, California (May 15, 2015) Sailors assigned to amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) pull de-energized electrical cables onto the ship in preparation for a magnetic treatment known as "deperm" at Naval Base Point Loma Magnetic Silencing Facility. The deperm process reduces the electromagnetic signature of a ship in order to limit its exposure to undersea mine detection.
