150513-N-LD343-001 POINT LOMA, California (May 13, 2015) Lt. Patricia Cunanan, left, electrical officer on board amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), inspects the flight deck after Sailors stage de-energized electrical cables in preparation for a magnetic treatment known as "deperm" at Naval Base Point Loma Magnetic Silencing Facility. The deperm process reduces the electromagnetic signature of a ship in order to limit its exposure to undersea mine detection. America is the first ship of its class and is optimized for Marine Corps aviation. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Demetrius Kennon/Released)
