The old store at the Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base Annex, Ala., had operated since 1974. The new store’s sales area is nearly a third larger. The new facility, which opened Aug. 5, 2014, also boasts modern energy-saving design features and equipment, which makes it a more environmentally friendly place to shop. Thanks to the surcharge - the 5 percent added to every commissary patron's receipt - the Maxwell-Gunter community received a new store. (DeCA photo: Rick Brink)
