150315-N-NT265-219 EAST CHINA SEA (March 15, 2015) – Chief Gunner’s Mate James Starn, from Van Nuys, Calif., assigned to the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), fires a 9mm handgun during a live-fire exercise on the flight deck. Ashland is part of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, along with the embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is currently conducting a certification exercise (CERTEX).
