Soldiers of the Rocky Ford Field Maintenance Shop 6 instruct teams on winch and recovery functions of the small unit support vehicle (SUSV) at Routt National Forest near Steamboat Springs, Colo., Jan. 27, 2015. Thirty-nine Soldiers from Colorado's Front Range gained experience and knowledge in this and deep snow driving, cold weather survival and first aid during a training exercise conducted Jan. 26-29, 2015. The exercise provided realistic scenarios of lost or injured recreationists throughout the 12,000 acre training area. The SUSVs are nontactical vehicles intended to augment civilian rescue response. Soldiers practiced quick and efficient response through leadership, navigation, cooperation and planning using eight of the 10 small unit support vehicles (SUSV) owned and maintained by the Colorado National Guard. The annual training is an integral part of CONG's domestic emergency preparedness. Snow response training means CONG is always ready, always there when to meet the needs of Colorado and surrounding states. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. Manda Walters/Released)
