Erin O’Toole (right), the Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs laid a wreath at the Canadian Cross of Sacrifice at Arlington National Cemetery Feb. 3, 2015. After the ceremony O'Toole is quoted as saying: “It’s an honor for me to be here as Canada’s Minister of Veterans Affairs and as a Canadian who served for 12 years in our armed forces serving alongside, training and often deploying with our American friends and allies. It is very important for us today to show respect for the fallen of your country, see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Changing of the Guard and to visit the Canadian Cross which recognizes in WWI that 3,000 Americans died fighting with Canadians as we entered the war early. Our countries have a long and rich history as neighbors, friends and allies so it is important for us to show our respect and support and Arlington National Cemetery is the place to do that.”
