U.S. Navy Lt. Andrew Burns shakes hands with a resident Jan. 16 at Hikarigaoka nursing home in Okinawa, Japan. Marines, sailors and military family members with 7th Communication Battalion joined with staff and residents of the nursing home to participate in a New Year mochitsuki ceremony. The ceremony is a Japanese tradition where they pound rice with a wooden mallet to make mochi, a Japanese gel-like rice cake served as dessert. Mochi is believed to bring good health and prosperity for the New Year. Burns, from Mount Desert, Maine, is the chaplain with 7th Comm. Bn., III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Drew Tech/Released)
