    Chef Robert Irvine shows food service Marines with 4th Marine Regiment how to pre-cook vegetables Jan. 7 on Camp Schwab using a technique called blanching. Blanching is boiling vegetables and then plunging them into ice water before using them in a recipe. Blanching is used to whiten vegetables or partly or fully cook them. Irvine, an English celebrity chef and star of TV show, “Restaurant: Impossible,” came to Camp Schwab to cook with Marines attached to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
