The Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, Jim Butterworth, discusses next steps in improving responses for winter weather emergencies with his Georgia Department of Defense operational staff during the two-day GEMA preparedness exercise at the agency’s headquarters in Atlanta. Lt. Col. Tiffany Sneed, (right), and Lt. Col. Michael Collins, acting as the GaDOD operations officer for the exercise, back briefs Butterworth on logistical and support elements based on current scenarios. The multi-phase coordination effort incorporates revisions to the governor’s existing snow and ice plan and involves 16 state agencies, numerous utility and private sector firms and nearly 700 individual service assets. “Georgia’s National Guard is one of our go-to asset for our agency,” said GEMA director, Charlie English.
