Senior Airman Luis Bermudez, 532nd Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, is awarded the Purple Heart here March 29 by Lt. Gen. Gary North, 9th Air Force and U.S. Air Forces Central commander. Airman Bermudez was injured March 9 when a stray bullet impacted the left side of his chest as he made his way across the 532nd ESFS HMMWV yard to meet with his squad for a mission, only a few hours into his first day of duty on his deployment. A native of Chicago, he is deployed here from Buckley Air Force Base, Colo.
