Aviation Boatswain's Mate Handler 3rd Class Matthew Bork stands watch at the brow of the USS New York (LPD 21) moments before it was "brought to life" at a commissioning ceremony Nov. 7. With 7.5 tons of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center towers forged into its bow, New York is designed to transport Marines and their equipment. It will be used to support humanitarian, amphibious assault, special operations and expeditionary warfare missions around the world. New York is the sixth U.S. Navy ship named for the state and will be home-ported in Norfolk, Va. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class David P. Coleman/released)
