Three hundred acres of land on the Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island is now the Crescent Harbor Salt Marsh as the culmination of a wetland restoration project that began in 15 years ago. The project started in 1994, but not until 1999, upon the listing of the Puget Sound Chinook salmon as threatened, did efforts begin in earnest. The project was completed Aug. 19 and now provides full tidal flow and juvenile salmon access.(U.S. Navy Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Tucker M. Yates/RELEASED).
