A reenactor portrays Ft. McHenry Garrison Commander Maj. George Armistead during the ceremony. In 1814, Maj. Armistead ordered a local flag maker to produce a flag large enough that the British would be able to see it from miles away. The 30-by-42 foot flag was hand-sewn and took seven weeks to complete.
