David Grange, an infantry officer who was a deputy commander of Delta Force and later commanded the 75th Ranger Regiment, created the Mungadai event to test the teamwork, physical stamina and leadership abilities of senior officers and NCOs under tough conditions to build esprit de corps and unit cohesion.
