National police officers assigned to the 8th NP Brigade, 2nd NP Division were positioned along several key positions across the New Baghdad District of eastern Baghdad on Jan. 31 during the provincial elections. Iraqi security forces were responsible for security across eastern Baghdad. Paratroopers assigned to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad assisted with security during the elections.
