A U.S. Coast Guard vessel is conducting a maritime operation at sea, with personnel in orange life vests and blue helmets observing or participating in a small rigid inflatable boat (RIB) deployment. A second small boat with personnel is visible in the water alongside the larger vessel, and a larger warship is visible on the horizon in the background. The scene appears to be a joint maritime exercise or boarding operation in open blue ocean waters.

Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and six submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 26 to August 1, in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2014 is the 24th exercise in the series that began in 1971. (U.S Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Manda M. Emery/Released)
