Two U.S. Army soldiers wearing ACU (Army Combat Uniform) pattern fatigues and yellow hard hats are standing in front of a deteriorating blue adobe/mud-plaster building, apparently conducting a structural assessment or humanitarian assistance mission. The building shows significant wall degradation with large patches of plaster missing, exposing the underlying mud construction. Civilians, including children and adults, are visible in and around adjacent structures.

Soldiers stand outside the current school building discussing the advancements being made at the construction site at El Roble May 15, 2014 during Beyond the Horizon 2014 – Guatemala. “I told the students this is an American school,” commented Maj. Keir Scoubes, a linguist with the 300th MI Brigade out of Utah. “Not a North, Central, or South American school, but American because it was built with the bonds we have created.” (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Pfc.
