Hamid Karzai, president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, observes flight operations on the flight deck of USS Theodore Roosevelt. Karzai visited the aircraft carrier to gain a better understanding of how the U.S. Navy conducts operations at sea. Theodore Roosevelt and embarked Carrier Air Wing 8 are on deployment in the 5th Fleet area of operations, and are focused on reassuring regional partners of the United States'commitment to security, which promotes stability and global prosperity.
