President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai observes flight operations on board USS Theodore Roosevelt. Karzai, along with Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet, Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, visited the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, currently on a scheduled deployment to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility. The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and embarked Carrier Air Wing 8 are on deployment in the 5th Fleet area of responsibility, and are focused on reassuring regional partners of the United States commitment to security, which promotes stability and global prosperity.
