Phoenix native, Col. Mark D. Collins, commander for the Fort Bragg, N.C.-based 82nd Sustainment Brigade-U.S. Central Command Materiel Recovery Element, uses a hydraulic excavator to demolish a building on a deconstruction site April 16 at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. Soldiers with the Summerville, S.C.-based 1223rd Engineer Company, South Carolina Army National Guard, attached to the 82nd SB-CMRE and the Little Rock, Ark.-based 489th Engineer Battalion, are working an engineer project at the site and gave Collins a few pointers on operation of the heavy vehicle.
