Staff Sgt. Chris Pieper, a firefighter from the 447th Air Expeditionary Group, poses for a photo with an Iraqi steppe eagle as it takes wing after visiting the headquarters building at Sather Air base on the west side of Baghdad International Airport today. The eagle stayed for nearly an hour just resting and preening. Airmen speculated that the large bird-of-prey may have come from the nearby Baghdad zoo because it seemed so at ease as a crowd gathered and people stepped within a few feet to pose for pictures with the special visitor. Sergeant Pieper is a North Dakota Air National Guard member deployed from the 119th Wing at Hector Field in Fargo.
