Staff Sgt. Herbert Smitley, a platoon sergeant from Waynesburgh, Pa., assigned to Company C, 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, attached to the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, conducts a surprise visit to an Iraqi traffic checkpoint manned by Iraqi National Police and Sons of Iraq, Oct. 28, 2008, in the Risalah community of the Rashid District. The Soldiers of "Cyclone" Company inspect checkpoints in the Risalah community, an area comprised of 12 muhallahs and home to approximately 250,000 Iraqi families, assist and supervise the Iraqi security forces who are responsible for enforcing security in southern Baghdad.
