A group of paratroopers assigned to 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, waits to negotiate a hill on the ski course during the battalion’s biathlon competition March 7 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The purpose of the training is to develop each paratrooper’s ability to ski over variable terrain and rapidly engage targets at 50 meters with accurate fire in arctic conditions. Headquarters Company Staff, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment ranked first in the biathlon with a time of 1:49:18.
