U.S. Marines with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and U.S. Navy Sailors aboard the USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) go ashore at Naval Station Rota, Spain, for a short liberty call as the ship is re-supplied, Feb. 24, 2014. The Marines and Sailors each carried a bag of garbage with them in order to help clean the ship after two weeks at sea. The MEU is deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group as a sea-based, expeditionary crisis response force capable of conducting amphibious missions across the full range of military operations.
