Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates gives a coin to a sailor on board USS Higgins (DDG 76). Sec. Gates, who took time to give coins and take photos with every Sailor on board, answered sailors’ questions and toured the ship during his visit to the San Diego area. Higgins recently returned from an around-the-world deployment and was the first ship to arrive in Haiti, following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, to support humanitarian and disaster relief efforts as part of Operation Unified Response.
