Two individuals in red shirts and military camouflage pants are climbing a large rope net obstacle, likely during a military training demonstration. A large group of uniformed recruits or trainees observes from behind, watching the demonstration in an outdoor wooded setting. The scene appears to be a military obstacle course training exercise, possibly at a boot camp or training facility.

Drill instructors of Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, demonstrate the correct way to complete a Confidence Course obstacle Jan. 9, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. This course provides unique challenges to recruits who must overcome each obstacle using strength, teamwork and endurance. Recruits attempt this course twice in training, once after two weeks of training and again seven weeks later to evaluate their improvement. Alpha Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 24, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
