Louisiana Army National Guardsmen from the 1023rd Engineer Company, 528th Engineer Battalion in Monroe, La., wait to depart for the Sulphur Parks and Recreation Center in Sulphur, La., in anticipation of landfall of Hurricane Ike along the west coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The 1023rd is providing four three-man boat teams for damage assessment operations and potential search and rescue missions to Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes if necessary. Soldiers from the LANG have been activated since, Aug. 28, 2008, to assist the residents of Louisiana because of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
