Chief Culinary Specialist (select) Kristopher Freyberg, assigned to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Newport in Newport, R.I., cleans the overhead of the captains sea cabin during a community relations (COMREL) project on board the South Dakota class battleship, USS Massachusetts (BB-59), in Fall River, Mass. Eight CPO selectees from U.S. Naval War College, NAVSTA Newport, and Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., participated in the COMREL project, which served as an opportunity to contribute toward the preservation and restoration of the battleship. The Massachusetts, affectionately nicknamed Big Mamie by its crew, currently sits moored pierside at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Mass., and serves as a museum ship for the Massachusetts Memorial Committee.
