Sgt. Samuel J. Patton, 24, Conway, S.C., vehicle commander, takes accountability of every Marine within the convoy prior to departure Aug. 4, 2008. The convoy pulled into al-Qaim late in the evening to offload an M-88 Tank Retriever and a platoon of tankers from their new mission jump-off point. Patton and Marines with Security Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 6, 1st Marine Logistics Group, bedded down for the night and awoke early to begin their journey back to al-Asad.
