Ice forms on the anenometers at the top of NOAA buoy 45005, which is secured aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay, a 140-foot ice-breaking tug homeported in Detroit, while underway in Lake Erie as the cutter's crew participates in Operation Fall Retrieve, Dec. 7, 2013. During the winter months, lake spray freezes almost instantly on the decks, railings and instruments aboard the cutter making operations extremely dangerous.
