Soldiers of the Massachusetts Army National Guard and a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1 work to clear rubble during Maine's Vigilant Guard Exercise on Nov. 6. As part of the ongoing exercise to test emergency preparedness, federal, state, and international search and rescue units joined forces to extract simulated casualties from a collapsed building on the grounds of Brunswick Landing. Over the next two days, crews will respond to simulated natural and man-made disaster scenarios in order to be better prepared for a real, large-scale incident.
