Melissa Salts, a graduating recruit from the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy, receives her badge from Sheriff William D. Gore at the Bob Hope Theater aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Oct. 16. Salts is the granddaughter of Robert Laesch, a Marine veteran that fought during World War II and in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Laesch came out from Arizona to attend Salts’ graduation, where she became a deputy sheriff for the San Diego region. The San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy recognized him as an honored guest at the ceremony.
