An Omran Holding Group Afghan engineer shows lighting that will be installed in the Salang Tunnel as part of the final repairs. Over the years maintenance on the tunnel was neglected, leaving it a narrow two-lane tunnel, pot-holed, unpaved, and lacked a working lighting and ventilation system. The thick fumes and near-zero visibility made traveling through the passageway treacherous.
