U.S. service members pause for a moment of silence during the 9/11 Remembrance Service at Forward Operating Base Fenty, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, Sept. 11, 2013. The service began at 5:16 p.m. local time, 8:46 a.m. EDT, in remembrance of the time the first airplane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Along with the service, the Fenty Chapel was open throughout the day for self-guided reflection and prayer.
