Iraq's Deputy Minister of Education Nehad Al-Juburi watches a Sons of Iraq student participating in the country's pilot literacy program spell out his name during the grand opening of the program during a ceremony held, July 5. The literacy program was envisioned by Gen. David Petraeus, the commanding general of the Multi-National Force - Iraq, and carried out by Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 10th Mountain Division. The program is designed to prepare Hawijah's SoIs for the application process necessary to transition to Iraq's Security Forces. A candidate must be literate to be considered for a position with Iraq's police or its army.
