Rct. Dustin Tate drags Rct. Paul Banks, both with Platoon 1084, Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, during a physical training session Aug. 26, 2013, at the battalion's obstacle course on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits such as Tate, an 18-year-old native of Catskill, N.Y., and Banks, a 19-year-old native of Owenton, Ky., endure many different physical training sessions to build them up to the Marine Corps' demanding standards. Bravo Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 1, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
