Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Welsh III gets the story from Staff Sgt. Robert Wells of the events that resulted in his team earning the Distinguished Flying Cross. Welsh and Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James A. Cody presented Wells and his teammates the DFC during an Airman's call Aug. 21, 2013, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. The recipients were Capt. Michael Kingry, Capt. Gavin Johnson, 1st Lt. Matthew Pfarr, Tech. Sgt. Scott Lagerveld, and Staff Sgt. Robert Wells and they received the DFC for a rescue mission in Afghanistan.
