During the National Hispanic American Heritage month ceremony, volunteer performers danced to Salsa, Bachata and Jarabe in celebration of this event, Oct. 12, 2012, at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. Salsa is a form of music and dance encompassing vibrant and energetic hip-swinging moves surrounded by intense beats of Latin Jazz and Cuban Mambo. Jarabe is a folk dance for couples that inspire flirtation, popular in central and southern Mexico, particularly in Jalisco state. Bachata is a form of music and dance played by guitars with percussion instruments such as maracas or bongo drums that originated in the Dominican Republic.
