Maj. Gen. David G. Perkins, commanding general of the 4th Infantry Division, gives personal thanks after receiving the Bronze Star Medal Oct. 20 for his commitment and contributions to the division’s 13-month Operation New Dawn Mission as United States Division-North. Perkins was awarded the medal prior to the division’s color casing ceremony, which was held inside a hangar at Contingency Operating Base Speicher, Iraq. The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to any person who, while serving with the Army of the United States, distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.
