The rain god Tlaloc was painted here by the Jornada Mogollon people, who settled this region 1,000 years ago. The paintings, or pictographs, can be found all over the park in various shaded spots and overhangs. Cave Kiva, a natural formation in the east face of North Mountain, houses a wide variety of pictographs. Once inside, patrons can see and photograph more than eight different painted masks and prayers. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. James Avery, 16th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment)
