A round is chambered in an M16A4 service rifle during Table 3 of the Combat Marksmanship Program Sept. 24 at the Central Training Area. The M16 is a lightweight, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle that fires a 5.56 mm round. Throughout the course, Marines with III Marine Expeditionary Force Headquarters Group, III MEF, fired headshots, hammer pairs, controlled pairs and “failure-to-stop” drills while maneuvering and pivoting at various distances.
