Cpl. Cody J. Latscha, a Pheonix, Arizona, native, guides an assault amphibious vehicle down a high-speed vessel’s ramp July 15 at Pohang, Gyeongsang, Republic of Korea. The Marines are in South Korea to take part in Korean Marine Exchange Program 14-12. “We want to gain a better appreciation for the (terrain) in the Korean Peninsula so that if we’re called upon to fight with our ROK Marine Corps counterparts, we can do so in an expeditious manner,” said Maj. Daniel J. Thomas, an Oakdale, Louisiana, native and operations officer with Combat Assault Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force. “I’m looking forward to the exercise, and I think this will definitely continue to set the tone for future evolutions that CAB is able to conduct on the peninsula with our ROK Marine counterparts.” Latscha is an embarkation specialist with 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I MEF, which is currently attached to CAB, 3rd Marine Division, III MEF, under the unit deployment program.
