Rct. Johnny Evans, Platoon 1030, Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, prepares to escape from a choke from Rct. The recruits like Evans, 20, from Victoria, Va., and Cintron-Lebron, an 18-year-old from Rochester, N.Y., watched demonstrations of techniques from a martial arts instructor and then practiced the moves on each other. The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program fuses hand-to-hand combat skills with character development, yielding a strong, morally sound Marine warrior. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate May 2, 2014.
