A 3D video rendering of miter gates at McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System is shown, as part of a Computer-Aided Design/ Building Information Modeling (CAD/BIM) project developed by a collaboration of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel. Staff from the Walla Walla, Philadelphia, Mobile, Louisville, Little Rock, Tulsa and Rock Island districts, collaborated on the design which resulted in enterprise-wide recognition for using advanced digital modeling tools to design the next generation of infrastructure, keeping commerce moving along the nation’s inland waterways. CAD/BIM are digital tools engineers use to produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings, and create intelligent 3D models for analysis, coordination and long-term maintenance planning. The McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System spans 445 miles across Arkansas and Oklahoma, connecting inland ports to the Mississippi River, supporting billions of dollars in commerce each year.
